July to mid-September. Going-to-the-Sun Road only opens fully in late June or July; timed entry reservations some years.
Warnings for large vehicles
- Going-to-the-Sun Road: vehicles over 21 ft long, 8 ft wide (mirrors included) or 10 ft high are banned between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun. Park the RV and take the shuttle.
- Yellowstone: book campgrounds early; few sites for rigs over 40 ft. Never approach bison.
